Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data DocType Switch handles, why, and what you can do about it. We collect as little as we can: you can use the converters without an account, and we never ask for your name, phone number or date of birth.
1. Who we are

- Your files. The file you upload and the converted result, used only to perform the conversion you ask for. We don't look at them, share them, sell them or use them to train any model.
- Account details, if you create an account: your email address, a securely hashed password (or your Google account ID if you sign in with Google), whether your email is verified, and when you accepted our terms and confirmed your age.
- Conversion records: which tool you used, when, file sizes and the outcome, so we can show your history, enforce daily allowances and fix problems.
- Security data: a one-way, keyed hash of your IP address (not the address itself) for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Our server logs record the address requested and the time, never file contents, passwords or tokens.
- Advertising cookies, only if advertising is switched on and you accept them. See the cookie policy.
If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply. The contact form opens your own email app; it doesn't send anything to our servers.
3. Legal bases
- Contract: converting your files and running your account.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure, preventing abuse and fixing faults.
- Consent: advertising cookies. You can withdraw it at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer.
4. Who receives your data
We share data only with these service providers, each bound to use it only to provide their service to us. We never sell personal data.

Speech recognition and narration are done by one speech provider at a time, chosen by us. It receives the recording or text only to process that request. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
5. International transfers
Some providers above process data outside Nigeria, including in the United States. Where that happens we rely on their contractual data-protection commitments and the safeguards required by the applicable data protection law.
6. How long we keep it
- Uploads and results: deleted automatically, by default 24 hours after conversion. Guest files are deleted 30 minutes after you first download the result. The result page shows the exact time.
- Guest sessions: end when you close the tab and are removed from our records within 30 days.
- Sign-in sessions: up to 30 days, or until you log out.
- Accounts: until you delete your account.
- Conversion records (no file contents): while your account exists; anonymised when it is deleted.
7. Your rights, and deleting your data
You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email support@doctypeswitch.com and we'll reply within 30 days.
You don't need to ask for deletion; you can do it yourself straight away:

Deleting your account erases your email address, password, Google link and every stored file, and signs you out everywhere. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your data protection authority (in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission).
8. Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Files are stored privately and downloaded only through personal links that expire after a few minutes. Passwords are hashed with Argon2id. Your sign-in session uses an HttpOnly cookie that scripts can't read. Admin tools are restricted to administrators and every admin change is logged. No system is perfectly secure: if you suspect a problem, tell us at support@doctypeswitch.com.
9. Children
DocType Switch is not for children under 13. To create an account you must confirm you're 18 or older, or at least 13 with your parent's or guardian's permission. If you're a parent and think your child has given us personal data without permission, email support@doctypeswitch.com and we'll delete it.
10. Changes
We'll update the date at the top when this policy changes, and email registered users about significant changes.
