BMP is needed by some older Windows software, embedded devices and hardware tools that cannot read modern formats.

About this conversion
AVIF
AV1-based image format with very efficient compression, transparency, and wide colour / HDR support.
BMP
Mostly uncompressed bitmap format from Windows. Simple and lossless, but files are large.
Limitations and things to know
BMP does not support transparency. Transparent areas of your AVIF will be filled with a background colour (white by default, or the colour you choose if the option is offered).
BMP cannot store animation. If your AVIF is animated, only one frame (normally the first) is converted unless the service offers frame selection.
AVIF can store HDR and wide-gamut colour. Converting to a standard-range format maps colours into sRGB, so very saturated or bright areas may look slightly different.
BMP files can be much larger than the original because they are stored with little or no compression.
Metadata such as EXIF camera data and colour profiles may be removed or converted for privacy and compatibility.
Size, page, duration and dimension limits are shown in the converter above and checked again by our server.
AVIF to BMP: common questions
Will converting AVIF to BMP reduce quality?
BMP is lossless, so the pixels are stored exactly.
Is my AVIF file checked before conversion?
Yes. We inspect the file's contents, not just its name, and the server verifies it again before converting. Renamed files that are not really AVIF are rejected.
What happens to transparency?
BMP has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a solid background colour.
What if my AVIF is animated?
BMP is a still-image format, so a single frame is exported. If frame selection is offered you can choose which one.
BMP files are huge and old-fashioned, yet they still appear from scanners, machines and legacy software. Here is why, when BMP is genuinely useful, and how to convert it sensibly.
AVIF images are showing up on websites and phones, and many apps cannot open them. Here is what AVIF is, why it exists, what it is good at, and how to convert it when you need to.
Some older programs, embedded screens and legacy systems only read BMP. Converting AVIF to BMP makes modern images usable there. Here is what changes and how to prepare.
