One of the first decisions on any converter site is whether to sign up. Here, you do not have to: most tools work straight away as a guest. A free account adds a few genuinely useful things, though. This guide explains exactly what each option gives you, so you can choose what suits you.
Converting as a guest
When you convert without signing in, the site creates a temporary guest session for your browser tab. It works like this:
- No sign-up, no email address required. Choose a file and convert.
- Your conversion lives in your current tab. Once you have downloaded your result, refreshing or leaving the page starts fresh, so nothing lingers on screen.
- Short storage time. Guest files are deleted about thirty minutes after you first download your result, or after the standard retention period if you never download it.
- Daily allowances apply. Each tool has a daily number of free conversions for guests, shown on the tool page, plus an overall daily total.
Guest mode is ideal for quick, one-off conversions and for anyone who prefers not to keep any history.
Converting with a free account
With an account, conversions belong to you rather than a browser tab:
- Conversion history. Your recent conversions appear in your dashboard for the retention period, typically 24 hours by default, so you can download them again from another device.
- Higher daily allowances. Signed-in users get larger daily limits per tool and overall. By default, allowances for signed-in users are many times higher than for guests, though the site administrator sets the exact numbers.
- Some tools may require an account. Administrators can choose to make certain tools available to signed-in users only, and the tool page tells you if so.
- Keep guest work. If you convert as a guest and then create an account in the same tab, you can choose to move those guest conversions into your new account.
Signing up
You can create an account with an email address and password, or with your Google account.
- Email and password. Choose a password of at least ten characters, including a letter and a number. You will receive an email to verify your address.
- Google sign-in. One click, and your email address is already verified by Google. You can still add a password later using the "forgot password" link, which lets you sign in with email as well.
Privacy in both modes
Whichever you choose, the same protections apply: files are processed privately, never shared or published, downloaded through short-lived personal links, and deleted automatically after the retention period. Document and recording content is never written to logs. An account simply links your conversions to you for the retention period so you can find them again.
A side-by-side summary
- Sign-up needed: guest no; account yes, with email or Google.
- Where conversions appear: guest in the current tab only; account in your dashboard on any device.
- How long files are kept: guest about 30 minutes after first download; account for the standard retention period.
- Daily allowances: guest lower; account higher.
- Moving guest conversions into an account: yes, when you sign up in the same tab.
Which should you choose?
Choose guest mode if you need a quick conversion, rarely use converter tools, or prefer no history at all.
Create a free account if you convert files regularly, need higher daily allowances, want to download results again from another device, or use tools that require signing in.
A worked example: a quick one-off
A shopper needs to turn a WebP product photo into a JPG for a return form. She converts as a guest, downloads the JPG, and closes the tab. The file is deleted shortly afterwards, and she never needed to sign up.
A worked example: a weekly routine
A teacher converts reading materials every week: EPUBs to PDFs for printing and PDFs to audio for students who prefer listening. She creates a free account with Google, uses the higher daily allowances, and downloads files on the school computer that she started converting at home.
A worked example: changing your mind
A student converts a lecture recording as a guest, then realises she will want the transcript on her laptop later. She creates an account in the same tab and chooses to keep her guest conversions, so the transcript appears in her dashboard.
Managing your account
From your dashboard you can see recent conversions, download results while they are still available, and manage your account settings. If you signed up with email, you can reset your password at any time from the sign-in page.
Questions people ask
Is the account really free? Yes. Creating an account costs nothing.
Will you send me marketing emails? Signing up sends a verification email and, when you ask, password reset emails.
Can I delete my files early? Files are deleted automatically after the retention period, and guest files shortly after download.
Can I use the same account on my phone and computer? Yes. Sign in on each device to see your conversion history.
Common misunderstandings
"Guest files are public." They are not. Guest conversions are tied to your browser tab, stored privately and downloaded through short-lived personal links, exactly like account conversions.
"An account means my files are kept forever." They are not. Account conversions follow the same retention period and are then deleted automatically. The account keeps a record that a conversion happened, so your dashboard makes sense, but the files themselves are removed.
"I have to sign up before I can try anything." You do not. Try any guest-enabled tool first, and sign up later only if you find you want history or higher allowances.
"Signing in with Google shares my files with Google." It does not. Google only confirms who you are. Your files stay on the converter and are never sent to Google.
Tips for shared or public computers
- Use guest mode on library or office computers when you only need one quick conversion.
- Download your result straight away, then close the tab so the page resets.
- Sign out when you finish if you used your account, especially on a computer other people use.
- Clear the browser's download folder if the computer does not do it automatically.
In short
Guest mode is fast, private and needs no sign-up, with files removed shortly after you download them. A free account adds conversion history across devices, higher daily allowances and access to any account-only tools, and you can sign up with email or Google. Choose guest for quick one-offs and an account for regular use.
